Family office investment management firm wins inaugural investment industry award

Alvia Asset Partners has etched its name in the history books by claiming the inaugural Boutique Licensee Managed Account category at the 2023 IMAP (Institute of Managed Account Professionals) Awards.

The Brisbane-based family office investment management firm trumped its southern rivals to win the award, which was announced at a gala evening in Sydney on Thursday.

The accolade comes on the back of an impressive performance by Alvia, which has achieved a three-year per annum return of 15.9%.

Alvia CEO Nathan Robertson said the award was testament to the firm’s investment ethos and strong returns.

“Our investment philosophy is founded on the underlying principle that good investing requires detailed analysis, conviction and a patient temperament,” he said.

“We have demonstrated an impressive ability to leverage the expertise of buying private businesses for our family office clients and transferring that to public markets, through the use of managed accounts.

“The results speak for themselves with our typical client portfolio achieving a three-year per annum return of 15.9%, which is 7% higher than that achieved by larger institutional balanced funds.”

Now in their sixth year, the IMAP Awards recognise excellent practice among investment managers who, together with their end clients, make up the managed accounts market in Australia.

The Boutique Licensee Managed Account category recognises the top non-institutionally owned Investment Manager in Australia operating a Managed Account Program. It considers performance during the past three years, investment committee structure and resourcing, and the way in which the firm’s portfolios reflect their investment philosophy.

It was a competitive category with Alvia up against Sydney-based firms Crystal Wealth and Harper Bernays, as well as Victorian firm, Halcyon Private Wealth.

Speaking about the Boutique Licensee Managed Account category at the awards night, Toby Potter, Chair of the Institute of Managed Account Professionals, said:

“There’s a depth of experience in these organisations that speaks volumes for the quality of the service that appeared to us as judges that they deliver to their clients. All of them bring institutional capabilities to a high service relationship … we’re starting to see now truly institutional tools brought to bear in the management of portfolios.”

Mr Robertson said he was incredibly proud of the Alvia team, which had a deep passion for investing and delivering for clients.

“We take pride in our performance, commitment to full transparency and genuinely listening to our clients, which sets us apart and drives long-term partnerships with our valued clients,” he said.
