Alvia appoints first CEO

Brisbane-based family office investment management firm Alvia Asset Partners has appointed its first Chief Executive Officer to help drive business growth.

Nathan Robertson is stepping into the role from one of the world’s largest asset managers, UBS, where he was a Director responsible for national growth.

Mr Robertson will lead distribution efforts across all segments of Alvia Asset Partners’ business; family office, wealth management partnerships and for-purpose organisations.

Mr Robertson is joining the Alvia team after two decades in the financial services sector helping clients propel their wealth creation through strategic solutions.

From early financial adviser roles to being responsible for national growth at one of the world’s largest asset managers, Mr Robertson has gained strong technical knowledge during long stints with industry leaders including UBS, Colonial First State and the Commonwealth Bank.

“Taking on the CEO role is a significant change for me representing all facets of the business, but there are a lot of similarities to my previous roles too. The alignment created by the team investing our own wealth alongside our clients, as well as Alvia’s exceptional track record investing across both public and private markets were primary motivations for me joining the business,” Mr Robertson said.

“My particular focus is business development and enhancing our service offerings, and ultimately expanding our referral relationships and wealth management partnerships.”

Alvia Asset Partners has a track record of producing industry-leading returns and tailored options for their clients.

Mr Robertson brings to the CEO role a deep network of connections within the wealth management community, particularly in Brisbane and Sydney, but also Melbourne.

“I’ve observed Alvia’s CIO Josh Derrington from the sidelines for a number of years now, and have been impressed with his ability to consistently generate strong returns and originate private equity opportunities,” Mr Robertson said.

“The team he’s built around him and the institutional-grade Investment Committee, led by industry veteran Jim Christensen, is very impressive. They’re fiercely inquisitive and their philosophy of radical transparency with their clients is really refreshing to me coming from much larger institutional firms, and the multiple tiers that come with that.”

Founder and Chief Investment Officer Josh Derrington said, “Bringing on our first Chief Executive makes a lot of sense for us with the business expanding rapidly. Having known Nathan for some time now I knew he would be a fantastic cultural fit for us and to secure someone of his caliber is very exciting.”

Outside of Alvia, Mr Robertson is proud to be utilising his skills in his voluntary role as Treasurer of the Youth Advocacy Centre (YAC), an organisation which provides legal services, youth and family support to vulnerable young people.
